A Fabulous Feature!

Thanks so much to Beckie at knockoffdecor.com.  She contacted me the other day to see if I would submit my sheet music dress form on her site to be compared with a dress form on PBteen. 

Well that was a no-brainer, yes please!

Laura from Finding Home created this gorgeous music sheet dress form.  I think the sparkly knob on the top just adds to the perfection of this piece.

I saw a similar Dress Form at Pottery Barn Teen which retails for $199 but aren’t half as fabulous as Laura’s..

Sheet Music Dress Form

It seems like it has been forever since I have finished a project around here, but I did get a little one done today, and photographed!

I made a sheet music dress form that will live in my Master Bath, at least for now.

My inspiration was this full sized lady I saw when I was at a Paris Flea Market last fall.

This lovely lady was $400.  Ouch.

I have had this dress form in my bathroom for years, and frankly I haven’t really liked it for about the last 5.

 

I was not a fan of the swirly thing and the painted on laces up the front was just a little too “tart” for my taste.

So, I gave her a makeover.

First, I took her off the metal base.  It was all attached as one unit with the swirly thing screwed on to the top so it was easy to remove.

Then, I used my Mod Podge and covered her in torn pieces of sheet music.  Across the middle, I was intentional about the “Love Duet” title, but other than that, I was random.  I did tear away the perimeter of the pages so that there was little blank space.

 

I had the candle holder that she is placed on.  I simply attached her with gorilla glue.

I widened the hole in the top and simply inserted the vintage crystal door knob for the topper.

   

I happen to think she came out rather lovely and much improved.

   And, she was made with what I already had in the house.

And, although she is not full sized like the Parisian lady, she also wasn’t $400.

 

Now, if I was a well behaved blogger, I would have lots of pictures of the different steps, but no such luck.

I am just glad to have finished a project and photographed it.  Hopefully, this is the start of lots of momentum.

Oh, and for the first time in a while, I will be sharing at some of the parties on my sidebar.

Oh, I have been busy...

For the last two nights I have been busy at auctions. It was very funny how contrasting each of them were. One was very low key casual, a little disorganized, fun (down home type of fun) and CHEAP! The other was very organized and formal, still fun but a different kind of fun (more like it was run so smoothly and there was so much too look at and they just paid $600 for a box of watches?!). Anyway, after finishing the auction, loading the car and unloading the car it is late and I did not take pictures . I will post tomorrow the great finds. Just know that I managed to walk away with the main thing I went after and a few things I should have left behind!

Thanks to my sister Lisa for coming and helping with all of the packing and unpacking! Also, as you saw me mention a little ways back, I sent off a whole bunch of sheet music to Miss Mustard Seed. She actually took a picture of my package and posted it on her blog! See her posting here. I am looking forward to seeing what other great projects she has in store for her sheet music.

A Big Giant Box, a Skunk and the Mother Load

So, yesterday, about a half an hour after I finished submitting my post to the Ballard Inspired project at the CSI Project, the door bell rang and it was a big giant box from Ballard! What is in the box? It is the final major piece to finishing up my family room. Hopefully in the next two weeks, I will finish all the last tweaks and then can show you the before and afters. Until then, what do you think is in the box?

Next, I would like you to meet an important member of our family, Bailey Rose. My youngest daughter was very worried that she would be sad if she didn't have a middle name like the rest of us, so we added Rose at the last minute to the already decided Bailey. Just like our children, when she is in trouble, she is no longer Bailey, she becomes BAILEY ROSE!

Well, for the second time since August, my lovely BAILEY ROSE, made friends with a skunk! I never had a dog growing up, so I am still learning my way in the dog world. I thought I would share something with you.

If you don't own a dog, or your dog doesn't like to play with skunks, go ahead, skip down to the next section, I won't mind.

If you own a dog who ventures outdoors always keep baking soda and hydrogen peroxide in your house. Why? Because that is the cocktail that does a pretty good job getting rid of the smell.

Last time she got in the house which was a whole other disaster. This time, my husband kept her still and not rubbing herself all over. I ran inside, mixed a whole bottle of peroxide with two big scoops of baking soda, couple of squirts of dish soap and a little warm water, but not too much to dilute it. I put on rubber gloves, got an old towel and covered her and her collar in this concoction, rinsed her off with warm water. Toweled her off and let her sleep in the garage. I know, so sad, but we left her with lots of blankets and towels to snuggle up in. By morning she was fine and just needs a good brushing. There are more specific recipes for the concoction online, but in the moment, I did what worked, and it did.

One more thing, my dog is already a blond. I have heard that dark color dogs, if left on to long, can be discolored from the peroxide, but I do not know for sure if that is true.

Okay, now for the Mother Load part, I hope you are all back with me.

This picture is all of sheet music! I had seen the request from Miss Mustard Seed for some sheet music. I had put my feelers out to a couple of places, but came up empty. I went to an estate sale this morning and pretty much cleared them out for a really great price. They knew there weren't going to be too many people who were going to come along and buy this much of it.

Sorry it is not a pretty picture, but I actually loaded it right back in my car. My Dad is a musician and when I told him about it, he wanted to take a look at it when I see him tomorrow. Once I bring it in I will show some more detailed pictures. The most interesting was some great children's books with amazing cover artwork. I can't wait to figure out what exactly I am going to do with all this, but I am sure I will figure it out. Of course, I will be sending a delivery to Miss Mustard Seed as well. This is just a picture of a couple of the other fun finds from the estate sale, taken outside since it is such a beautiful day.

Off to clean my house and prepare some lasagna for a weekend gathering!
